An Earth Year

  • It takes 365 1/4 days for the Earth to make one complete journey round the Sun

  • The Earth spins  365 1/4 times on its axis as it makes this journey.

  • There are 12 months in one year.

  • The Earth travels around the Sun in an ellipse because, the gravitational force of the Sun is pulling the Earth towards it all the times.

  • The days are shorter during the winter, in UK because the Earth is tilting away from the Sun.

  • The days are longer during summer, in UK because the Earth is tilting towards the Sun.

  • The Sun is Lower in the sky during winter and higher during summer, in UK.

During Summer the North Pole has 24 hours of light, because the northern hemisphere is tilting towards the Sun and during winter it has 24 hours of darkness, because the northern hemisphere is tilting away from the Sun.
