Earth Seasons

During summer, our part of the Earth (UK) is tilted towards the sun.  The Sun appears to be higher in the sky, and daylight lasts longer.  For this reason it is warmer.

In the winter, our part of the Earth is tilted away from the Sun.  the Sun appears to be lower in the sky, and the day-time is shorter.  Hence it is colder.
